The Natchez Trace Parkway is full of must-visit sites, and Cave Springs is one of them. There are only a few caves in Mississippi, and Cave Spring is just one. It is a beautiful-looking formation, and with a trail leading straight to it, a visit to this cave must feature on your itinerary. 

History of Cave Spring

Cave Spring is limestone carved out by the underground water, and it dissolved a portion of the limestone. The cave has huge historical significance as the experts believed that the Indians lived here as it was a good source of water and stone.

Geological Cave Formations

The examination of the ground surface and the type of rocks has indicated that the cave resulted from solution activity. A corridor and a long room were dissolved out of the rock by the underground water. The room’s roof was weakened over time, and it finally collapsed. It is believed that the Indians probably used this cave for its water and stone. However, the water is now not fit for drinking, and the cave has become dangerous.
